Yamaha YDP103 Arius Series Digital Console Piano with Bench (YDP103R)
This piano comes with a gorgeous dark rosewood bench. Considering the price, it’s really good.

What’s notable is that this is not just a console piano. It has GHS weighted action keys, which produce sound just like an acoustic piano.

It also comes with stereo sampling for natural instrument sound.

The piano has some stored music pieces that beginners and intermediate level players would like.

It’s also rather compact and doesn’t take up too much space. The bench, though lovely, lacks the hinges to store sheet music.

Korg B1SP 88 Weighted Key Digital Piano with Stand Three Pedal Board and Knox Bench
Digital pianos with benches for adults typically cost over $1,000. However, this Korg cost me a lot less.

This is the complete kit. The piano as 88 keys and the stand has foot pedals as well. The keys are naturally weighted for hammer action.

The full kit has a built in stereo sound system that was impressively clear. The pedals are for damper, sostenuto and soft.

It has a sheet stand too, and the bench is definitely adjusted for adult height. It’s hard to believe all this can be purchased for less than a $1,000.

This digital piano works great and I haven’t experienced any issues so far.

Williams Legato 88-Key Digital Piano Packages Beginner Package
This piano kit comes with a bench, stand, headphones and the power supply pack.

I was impressed by the piano, which delivers sounds really well. The headphones were good too and delivered sound with clarity.

However, do not expect a really high-quality stand.

It was not sturdy as I hoped and at times could be scarily wobbly. I recommend buying this beginner kit for everything except the stand.

M-Audio Keystation 88 II | 88-Key USB MIDI Keyboard Controller with Pitch-Bend & Modulation Wheels
This is a full keyboard best suited for beginners.

It is a MIDI controller keyboard, so it may not be suitable for everyone. It has digital connectivity via USB so it’s uniquely suited for learning to play digital music.

Buttons are in the octave range. You can definitely learn to play virtual instruments as well.

The biggest con is that this product comes with Ableton live, which is not compatible with Macs. You will have to use Garageband with a Mac.

Tips for Buying a Digital Piano with a $1000 Budget

Whatever your needs are, it’s important to keep in mind these main points when choosing the best digital piano under $1000:

First of all, you should know how many keys you want in the digital piano. They come in three types, with 61 keys, 76 keys or 88 keys.

The 61 key pianos are for beginner players who want to play easy and intermediate tracks.

The 76-key digital pianos are suited for players with some training but are still at the intermediate level.

The 88-key digital pianos are meant for pros. You can play even the most difficult songs with an 88-key digital piano.

Check the specs for extra audio. Most players just want the piano sounds from a digital piano.

However, many come packed with extra sounds as well, such as birdsong or guitar sounds. If you desire these extra features, you should carefully check the specs.

You will need a digital piano with extra sounds if you intended to learn to play virtual instruments.

Know what kind of price to pay. Do not pay over $150 for a 61-key digital piano. And, expect to play close to $500 if you want a complete 88-key digital piano.

Do not overspend. Be careful of the specs so you don’t spend more than you should on a digital piano.

Do not ever buy non-weighted keyboards. Only weighted keys can generate authentic sounding piano audio.

Non-weighted keys are plastic and sound like it. Only weighted keys will allow you to play fast songs.

Most digital pianos, especially the ones ordered online, do not come with an AC power cord. So, keep in mind to buy several of these early to go with your piano.
